The guidance of an insurance agent can be indispensable. By following the advice your agent gives you, you can save yourself time and money. Take for example, the situation outlined below.
You’re at your office at 5 a.m. one morning, knowing you have a ton of work to catch up on. As you get organization, you decide you might go get a cup of coffee before really settling in. It’s still very dark out and it’s snowing like crazy! Once in your car, you back up and put your blinker on to get out in traffic. After waiting for a few cars to go by, you begin to pull out, but all of a sudden you hear someone yelling. You slam on the brakes, put the car in park, and get out to see what happened.
A man standing behind your car, yelling that you hit him. Holy Cow… You didn’t hit anyone! You didn’t see anyone or hear anything, you’re 100% sure that you didn’t hit him!
What Did Your Insurance Agent Advise?
When you ask him if he is hurt, he tells you his arm is and that you will need to pay for his medical bills. You’re unconvinced,, but to be safe, you tell him you are calling the police. After all, your insurance agent has always told you to call the police anytime there is an accident.
You get back into your car to await the police and stay out of the snow, wondering what your insurance agent will make of all of this. The police arrive, and an officer comes to ask you what happened, while the other officer talks to the pedestrian. After explaining both sides of the situation, the police escort us over to take a look at the back of my car, where the pedestrian claims you hit him. However, there are no marks or indication of anything on the back of the car. The police ask him one more time what really happened, and he admits that he really wasn’t hit, but was hoping he could get a ride home!
Wow, what a way to start the morning. You’re glad you called the police, as they were nice enough to give him a ride home, but you are even more thankful that you really didn’t hit the pedestrian. To be honest, it was really dark and snowing, and even though you were backing out slowly, it could have happened.
Accidents happen quickly, and never when we expect them. This time around, nothing happened, and you are thankful you called the police, just like your insurance agent told you.
